Payment & scheduling FAQ

How and when do I get paid?

Parents pay you directly, usually monthly at the end of each month or as agreed at the start of the assignment. TutorMatchSG only deducts an agency fee from the first two weeks of tuition — after that, 100% of the fees go to you. There are no ongoing platform charges or hidden deductions.

What is the agency fee exactly?

Our fee is equivalent to the first two weeks of tuition fees for that assignment (based on your agreed hourly rate and weekly frequency). It's a one-time commitment fee — payable after the first two weeks of lessons. You keep 100% of every lesson from week three onwards, for as long as the assignment continues.

How do I set my rates?

You propose your hourly rate when accepting an assignment, based on your qualifications and the level you're teaching. We'll advise on the current market range for your profile so you stay competitive. Parents either accept your rate or you can decline the assignment — there is no pressure to underprice yourself.

How flexible is the schedule?

Fully flexible. You choose which assignments to accept, how many students you take on, and which days/times you're available. Most assignments are 1.5–2 hours per session, once or twice weekly, at the student's home. You can pause new assignments at any time — e.g. during exam period as a student, or when travelling.

What happens if a student cancels last-minute?

Cancellation and rescheduling terms are set between you and the parent at the start of the assignment. We recommend a 24-hour notice policy, with makeup lessons or a cancellation fee for shorter notice. We're happy to help mediate if any disputes arise.

Can I take on multiple assignments?

Yes — many of our tutors run several assignments per week. Just be realistic about travel time between locations and your ability to prepare quality lessons for each student.

Do I need my own materials?

For MOE syllabi (PSLE, O-Level, A-Level, IP), most parents provide the school textbook and past-year papers. Experienced tutors typically supplement with their own worksheets and topical practice. For IB / IGCSE, we recommend having your own set of past papers and mark schemes.

Do I need experience?

We welcome tutors at every stage — from undergraduates and graduates to experienced full-time tutors and ex/MOE teachers. Strong academic results and genuine teaching passion are essential, and many parents also value proven classroom experience, which is why we carefully match each family with a tutor whose background fits their needs.
