Tutor FAQ
How registration, matching, payment and conduct work for tutors on TutorMatchSG.
Getting Started
Message the bot on Telegram and send /start. You'll be guided through a short registration form covering your details, qualifications, subjects, and experience.
Phone number, name, email, date of birth, gender, race, citizenship, academic results, highest qualification, subjects you teach, age, years of experience, tutor type (Undergraduate/Part-Time, Graduate/Full-Time, or Ex/Current MOE Teacher), and a short description.
Yes. Send /start again — since you're already registered, you'll see an Update Profile option in the menu. You can edit any field at any time.
No, photos are not part of the profile.
Setting Preferences
An optional setting so you only get notified about assignments that match what you're looking for — by level (e.g. Primary, Secondary, JC), subject, and location. This is separate from registration and completely optional.
You can still apply to any assignment posted to the channel, but you won't get automatic match notifications without preferences set.
Yes, anytime via the Set Filter Preferences option in the bot menu.
Applying for Assignments
Assignments are posted to the @TutorMatchSG channel and/or sent directly to you as a match notification. Tap Apply Now on the specific assignment — there's no generic 'browse and apply' button, since each application needs to be tied to a specific posting.
You'll be asked to confirm you want to use your current profile (or edit it first), then asked your availability for the client's proposed day/time and your proposed rate. You'll then see a final summary of your application before submitting.
You can edit your profile right before applying if anything needs updating — the flow gives you that option at the start.
You'll get a thank-you message confirming submission, and you'll be contacted directly via WhatsApp or Telegram if you're shortlisted by the client.
You'll be contacted directly by the agency if you're shortlisted or assigned. There's currently no in-bot status tracker for your own applications.
Rates & Payment
The client proposes a rate when the assignment is posted, and you propose your own rate when applying. These may be negotiated further once you're in direct contact with the agency/client.
Yes — our commission is equivalent to 2 weeks' worth of lessons and scales with the agreed lesson frequency. For example, 1 lesson per week means a commission equal to 2 lessons, while 2 lessons per week means a commission equal to 4 lessons. After those lessons have been completed, TutorMatchSG collects the corresponding fees directly from the parent; tutors do not pay the commission to us separately.
Conduct & Policies
Tutors are expected to uphold professionalism and integrity at all times when representing TutorMatchSG — including honoring commitments made to clients, communicating promptly and respectfully, and approaching every engagement in good faith.
Just update it — use the Update Profile option, no need to contact admin unless you're having technical issues.

Miscellaneous
Once the first two weeks' worth of lessons have been completed, TutorMatchSG collects the fees for those lessons directly from the parent as the agency commission. Tutors do not need to make a separate commission payment to us. There are also no registration or ongoing membership fees.
