Terms & Conditions for Tutors
The agreement between TutorMatchSG and tutors engaged through our platform.
These Terms & Conditions ("Agreement") set out the relationship between TutorMatchSG ("the Agency", "we", "us") and any tutor engaged through the Agency to provide tuition services ("the Tutor", "you"). By accepting any assignment through TutorMatchSG, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by this Agreement.
1. Agency Fee
In line with standard practice in the home tuition industry, TutorMatchSG collects an agency fee from every tutor placed through the platform.
The fee is calculated upfront as 50% of your projected earnings for the first four weeks of the assignment, based on the agreed lesson frequency and duration.
This fee amount is fixed once calculated. Cancelled or rescheduled lessons during this period do not change the amount owed — we encourage you to reschedule any missed lessons where possible so the first four weeks aren't unnecessarily drawn out.
If the lesson frequency or duration changes on a long-term basis within the first week of the assignment, let us know as soon as possible so we can recalculate the fee accordingly.
TutorMatchSG collects this fee directly from the client. You may begin collecting payment directly from the client only after the agency fee period (the first two weeks of lessons) has been completed.
You must not collect the agency's portion of the fee from the client yourself. If this happens for any reason, notify us immediately and remit the full amount to TutorMatchSG within 2 days. Failure to do so makes you liable for the full fee plus any administrative costs we incur recovering it.
You're never obligated to accept an assignment. Please review the fee structure and terms before confirming — accepting an assignment means you've agreed to all of it.
Worked examples:
Weekly lessons, 2 hours, $45/hr → Agency fee: $180 (2 weeks × $90/lesson). You begin billing the client from lesson 3 onward, regardless of any rescheduling.
Twice-weekly lessons, 1.5 hours, $50/hr → Agency fee: $300 (2 weeks × 2 lessons × $75/lesson). You begin billing the client from lesson 5 onward.
Four times weekly, 1.5 hours, $30/hr → Agency fee: $360 (2 weeks × 4 lessons × $45/lesson). You begin billing the client from lesson 9 onward.
2. Ending an Assignment Early
The rate, start date, and time of the first lesson, once agreed, are considered fixed.
Clients may end the arrangement or request a different tutor at any time.
If the client ends the assignment before 2 weeks of lessons are completed, TutorMatchSG will share 50% of the agency fee already collected with you. The exact amount is assessed case-by-case at our discretion.
If you choose to end the assignment early — before 2 weeks of lessons are completed — without a valid medical reason (supported by a medical certificate or similar proof), you will not receive any fee for that period.
If you need to withdraw before the assignment has even started, please give us at least 7 days' notice. Withdrawing later than that incurs a $50 fee, to cover the cost of the client relationship being disrupted at short notice.
TutorMatchSG is not responsible for situations where a client stops responding or fails to make payment.
3. Conduct Expected of Tutors
We expect professionalism and ethical conduct from every tutor on the platform. Client feedback about a tutor's conduct is taken seriously and reviewed carefully.
Be on time, and deliver the full lesson duration agreed with the client, unless you've mutually arranged otherwise. Don't request payment for lessons that weren't actually delivered unless the client has explicitly agreed to it.
If a client asks to see your credentials (certificates, transcripts, etc.), you're expected to provide them. If your credentials don't match what was submitted to us, or you're unwilling to share them, the assignment will be cancelled and any fee for lessons already conducted will be forfeited. We reserve the right to escalate discrepancies further, including reporting to relevant authorities.
Keep parents/guardians reasonably informed about their child's progress through regular communication.
Physical or verbal abuse — including belittling, inappropriate language, or scolding directed at clients, students, or anyone connected to them — is not tolerated under any circumstance.
Disclosure of criminal history. Before accepting any assignment, you must fully and honestly disclose to us any past or current criminal record, charge, investigation, or conviction — in Singapore or elsewhere — including (but not limited to) matters involving dishonesty, fraud, violence, sexual misconduct, abuse, harassment, or offences involving minors. We'll assess the relevance of anything disclosed at our discretion, and reserve the right to decline, suspend, or end your engagement on this basis without needing to provide a reason.
Ongoing duty to disclose. By accepting an assignment, you confirm that everything you've told us about your criminal history is accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge. If your situation changes at any point — a new investigation, charge, or conviction — you're required to inform us in writing promptly. Failing to disclose, disclosing late, or providing false or misleading information is a serious breach of this Agreement and may result in immediate termination, cancellation of ongoing assignments, forfeiture of fees owed, and/or a report to the relevant authorities where appropriate.
By joining TutorMatchSG, you acknowledge that we may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to the platform and your engagement with us, without prior notice, for reasons including but not limited to:
- Breaching this Agreement or any other applicable terms or guidelines
- A request from law enforcement or a government authority
- Unethical conduct
- Consistently unsatisfactory performance
- False declarations, non-disclosure, or misrepresentation relating to criminal history or ongoing investigations
This Agreement may be updated from time to time. Continuing to accept assignments through TutorMatchSG after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
These terms are intended as a practical guide for tutors using TutorMatchSG. If you need a legally reviewed version for your business, please consult a qualified Singapore lawyer. Contact us with questions.
